“What the customer buys and considers value is never a product. It is always utility, that is, what a product or service does for the customer” - Peter Ferdinand Drucker (Austrian-American management consultant).
It is a quote that we at the Yard House have tried to live by ever since we started off in December 2020. Starting off, it was hard for us to judge how our products would be received but over the past year, we have seen growth that can act as the fulcrum for better times to come. We owe a large part of this growth to our customers who have believed in the product and it’s our absolute pleasure and joy to bring to you their Yard House Story.
For our first customer spotlight, We’re happy to feature Anjali Gadiyar Bhandari who was one of our very first customers. A qualified interior designer, Anjali has been doing residential projects for several years now. She draws inspiration from her mom who has always been enthusiastic about designing and keeping a beautiful home.
“It was all about having a place that reflects you and makes you feel good as it’s the place we end up spending most of our time and a place where we should invest most of our energy in”, says Anjali.
A walk through Anjali’s home invokes a warm, cozy feeling that is classic and elegant with touches of solid wood in every corner of her home.

TYH: WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE DINING SPACE IN YOUR EVERYDAY?
ANJALI: Growing up in Mumbai, we never had the luxury of a separate dining space because homes were very compact. I've always wanted a home that had a separate dining space where we could all sit around as a family to enjoy a meal and talk endlessly. Having moved to Bangalore, the first thing I looked for while buying this place was a separate dining space and the place I found was just perfect. Having my own dining space makes me look forward to mealtimes with my family, where we can sit at leisure and enjoy the food. Furthermore, I enjoy entertaining around the dining table when we have extended family and friends over. Everybody is able to sit around the table while enjoying good food and having great conversations.
TYH: CAN YOU PLEASE SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON HOW YOU DESIGNED YOUR DINING SPACE?
ANJALI: This was very important for us as we wanted to design a space that truly reflected our style and personality. Since both my husband and I have similar decor sensibilities, designing this space wasn't a problem at all. We both love solid wood and we were lucky enough to find a dining table that best suited the space and it can easily house 6-8 people comfortably. We also got a bar and crockery unit designed to our liking that blended well with the whole vibe of the space. Another important factor was getting the perfect lighting for this space as we wanted the place to be well lit and for it to be the highlight in the room.
TYH: HAVE YOU ALWAYS BEEN A FAN OF USING TABLE LINEN?
ANJALI: For the longest time, I’ve never really felt the importance or the need to cover my table with a tablecloth. I thought runners were enough. Since I have 2 young kids, there was a lot of damage being done to the table. I started to cover my table with the regular cotton tablecloths and someone always ends up spilling something on the table. It got to a point where I had to keep changing my linen every 4-5 days and this turned out to be quite a hassle. I started to cover my dining table for 2 reasons - I began to enjoy the look of my dining table with a tablecloth on and also it did protect the table from scratches, watermarks, etc.
TYH: WHAT TABLE LINEN DID YOU END UP PICKING FOR YOUR HOME?
ANJALI: My first buy was the All Over Red. It looked beautiful when I first saw it on Instagram but had to see it to believe how pretty it looked. And oh my, what can I say. I absolutely loved the feel of it and I had it on my table for the longest time and barely managed to get dirty. That left me feeling ecstatic as now I didn't have to worry about spillage, damages, or things flying off the table and most importantly not having to change my linen every few days. I could wipe almost anything off the table cloth. The best part was when my mom visited, she saw how super useful this product was and said that I had to cover my entire house with this table cloth!:)

TYH: WHAT COLOUR OR PRINT PREFERENCES DO YOU HAVE WHEN IT COMES TO CHOOSING TABLE LINEN?
ANJALI: I’m a big fan of block prints, be it my clothing, bed linen, or table linen. I love the prints and the colour choices that you currently have. When it comes to choosing table linen, I don't have any specific colour choices that I go with. I like to experiment with all colours.
With time, I decided to tone it down a bit in my print choices and go with a more muted colour like the one I recently picked up “Winter Woven Grey”. The reason I picked up the winter woven grey is because of how elegant and beautiful it looks with the pretty embroidery running right in the middle of it.
TYH: HOW DO YOU PLAN YOUR TABLE DECOR WHILE ENTERTAINING?
ANJALI: Considering Christmas is around the corner, I’m planning to have a get-together. I wish to use the winter woven grey table cloth as I feel it will elevate anything I put on the table, whether it is the food, table setting, or probably the entire evening itself.
I generally don’t do a very elaborate table set up and I like to keep the decor to a minimum as it's not ideal to use candles or any delicate pieces of decor on the table since we have friends who have little kids themselves. For us, it's more about enjoying the food and having a great time together than anything else.

TYH: ANY LAST WORDS YOU HAVE FOR US?
ANJALI: I have always been a fan of busy block prints but over time I have come to appreciate the solids and I am super thrilled you have them in your collection. The Yard House tablecloth is my absolute favorite table linen and I think it should be a must-have for any decor enthusiast. You're in the perfect category of home furnishings, where you're adding value and creating meaningful products.
As long as you keep bringing out fresh designs, I’ll always be looking forward to them!
